“Thematic” itinerary

“ARCHIPELAGO” ITINERARY

These are routes that consist of isolated or grouped objects, at different scales, linked together by the same theme:

The ambition of this project is to develop a real "archipelago" itinerary, which can promote all types of territories around their sporting heritage, tangible and intangible, in order to promote physical and sporting practices

2 main themes were retained by the scientific council:

1 - Around the figures of sportsmen and women

2 - Places linked to the history and practices of sport

This itinerary focuses on sports venues, whether sports facilities, places where sports institutions and sports industries are located, or any other place related to sports and games, highlighting the emphasis on architecture.

The scientific council agrees on the importance of a story, which will be organized based on four types of places:

  • Venues for sports competitions and shows.

Ex: Antic Stadium in Olympia (Greece)

  • Locations of sports, manufacturing and media industries.

Ex: Headquarters of La Gazzetta dello Sport in Milan (Italy)

  • Places of memory and commemoration of sport.

Ex: National Sports Museum in Nice (France)

  • Sports administration locations.

Ex: UEFA headquarters in Nyon (Switzerland)

Sport being a very vast, diverse and rich field, in addition to these two archipelagos, several sub-routes specific to a sport will be created:

  • Team sports (football, rugby, etc.)
  • The birth of Anglo-Saxon “sport” and the origins of team sports absent from Greek competitions
  • King sport of the 20th century: stadiums, social organizations, cultures, mythical figures and players
  • Art and Sport: representation in painting, literature, cinema and other arts
  • And many more to come...
